The Mediterranean diet prevent Alzheimer

Are well known the virtues of so-called Mediterranean diet which, among others, has been associated with lower risk of developing various forms of cancer, obesity, abnormal blood fat, hypertension, abnormal sugar metabolism, coronary heart disease and overall mortality.

A recent study has demonstrated that greater fidelity to the Mediterranean diet at baseline evaluation was associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease during follow-up.

This study

Adds another advantage to having many of the Mediterranean diet, shows lower incidence of AD in individuals following the diet.

In this study the authors examine whether the association between Mediterranean diet and Alzheimer’s disease remains different from other people suffering from Alzheimer’s. His hypothesis is that greater adherence or adherence to a Mediterranean diet was associated with lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in this patient population of this disease.

One of the possible mechanisms by which the Mediterranean diet could exert its protective effect for Alzheimer’s disease may be vascular: higher adherence to a Mediterranean diet could be linked to a lower proportion of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, and therefore with lower rates of dementia. In this study, the researchers also examined whether the association between Mediterranean diet and Alzheimer’s disease is mediated by vascular co morbidity, ie, other vascular diseases.

The results showed that increased monitoring of the Mediterranean diet is associated with a reduction in the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers observed a gradual reduction in the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in most patients adhered to the diet, suggesting a possible dose-response effect.

Their results also suggest that the vascular variables are likely to be the causal mechanism between the Mediterranean diet and Alzheimer’s disease, and should be considered as potential mediators.

The authors conclude that once again appreciate that greater adherence to the Mediterranean diet is associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Such an association does not appear to be mediated by vascular co morbidity.
