Anticatarrales medications and risk of elevated blood pressure
Oral pseudo ephedrine is commonly used to treat the symptoms of rhinitis and nasal discharge or watery discharge from the nose, and common colds, but its effects on blood pressure and frequency of the heart remain unclear.
In Brief
There medicaments Anticatarrales that raise blood pressure
This substance is used in Spain as in many pharmaceutical preparations Rinobactil, Rinobactil, Stop cold, Vinci grip, Vinci Forte, Airman (registered by different laboratories).
Have been reports of significant elevations of blood pressure in patients who take these substances, and because doctors often prescribe the in the fall and winter to alleviate the symptoms of colds, decongestants for their properties of the nose , has been given in recent years special attention to the safety of these drugs, particularly in hypertensive patients.
The purpose of the authors of this paper (“Effect of oral pseudo ephedrine on blood pressure and heart rate. A meta-analysis.”) Was to conduct a thorough review of the issue in adults to determine the effect of oral pseudo ephedrine on the frequency heart and blood pressure. Sought specifically whether pseudo ephedrine causes clinically significant elevations of these parameters.
Their results showed that pseudo ephedrine causes a small but significant rise in systolic blood pressure (top) and the frequency of the heart, but not in diastolic blood pressure (the minimum). The effect in patients with controlled hypertension demonstrated an increase in systolic blood pressure of similar magnitude. Preparations with higher doses of immediate release and produced greater increases in blood pressure. The use of these drugs for a few days was associated with greater increases in blood pressure as high as the lowest.
Now arriving colds, should hypertensive patients (and doctors) know what medications they can raise blood pressure to avoid them in time.
