In both cohorts was not observed a linear association between caffeine consumption and the risk of developing hypertension. When studying individual classes of caffeinated beverages, it was noted that habitual coffee consumption was not associated with an increased risk of hypertension. By contrast, consumption of cola beverages was associated with it an increased risk of developing hypertension regardless of whether the drink had sugar or not.
