Risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure
A Spanish study published in the journal Clinical Medicine of Barcelona analyzed the risk of experiencing a first stroke (popularly known as cerebral thrombosis or hemorrhage) in patients with hypertension for 10 years of presenting the disease.
Hypertension is major cardiovascular risk factors. According to experts, hypertension for at least 4 multiplies the risk of suffering a stroke, or stroke, and the value of blood pressure, especially systolic pressure, or maximum, is a linear relationship with the risk of complications blood vessels of the brain.
Hypertension

The researchers studied the characteristics of more than 16,000 hypertensive patients and found that the risk of a first stroke, which often leads to death or severe squeal and large leaves, was 20%, similar to the risk of disease heart disease. In relation to the sex of the patients showed that men had higher risk of disease of the heart (CHD) and, on the contrary, women had a higher risk of developing thrombosis or cerebral hemorrhage.
The authors conclude that the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients in Spain is high, and the main factors that condition (age, high systolic blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and hypertrophy or enlargement of the left ventricle of the heart) tend to appear associated. The risk of stroke in women was higher than that of heart disease. This risk must be taken into account in the assessment and treatment of hypertensive patients.
Hypertensive patients should be demanding to control your blood pressure (and their doctors try to control it by all means).
