Women with breast cancer may benefit from physical exercise
Physical activity after diagnosis of breast cancer has been associated so closely with an improved quality of life. Currently we have reason to believe that physical activity may increase survival in women with breast cancer. It has also been seen that in some ways, it can protect women not to develop this cancer. This is believed to be because women who have some degree of physical activity produced lower levels of circulating ovarian hormones.
In summary
This study concludes that physical activity after diagnosis of breast cancer may reduce the risk of death from this disease
JAMA the Journal recently published an article entitled Physical activity and survival after diagnosis of breast cancer in which the authors launched the hypothesis that physical activity after diagnosis of breast cancer might be associated with increased survival. Its objective was to determine whether physical activity among women with breast cancer decreases their risk of death from this type of tumor compared with sedentary women.
They found that any level of physical activity, higher than the reference to walk more than an hour a week was associated with a decreased risk of adverse outcome of breast cancer. These women had better survival compared with those with minor or no physical activity. They conclude in their study that physical activity after diagnosis of breast cancer may reduce the risk of death. The greatest benefit was in women who performed the equivalent of walking 3 to 5 hours a week at an average speed, ie, about 5 kilometers per hour. It was noted that women with breast tumors depend on hormones extracted the greatest benefits, suggesting a possible hormonal mechanism for improved survival among physically active women.
As of now we have to advise our patients with breast cancer put the running shoes and take a walk a long way every day.
